SELF GUIDED
CYCLING TOURS IN
JAPAN
Why us

We specialize in self-guided cycling tours that allow you to move at your own pace, always in private. Your luggage is transferred daily and awaits you at your next accommodation, allowing you to travel light and ride freely. Our easy-to-use turn-by-turn smartphone navigation lets you focus entirely on the joy of the ride. To avoid overexertion, private transfers are arranged when the door-to-door distance between accommodations is too long.
EXCLUSIVELY SELF-GUIDED
All of our accommodations—carefully selected for their five-star quality—offer truly unique and authentic experiences. We visit each location, selecting places that reflect meaningful discovery—through architecture, small luxuries, or unexpected complimentary touches. These stays are not just about rest; they are where you encounter Japan’s refined hospitality, exquisite cuisine, and the calm of natural hot springs, called "onsen".
PREMIER ACCOMMODATIONS
We prioritize the quality of your cycling route above all else, carefully designing paths that keep you away from busy roads. Our routes are designed with a daily goal of staying within 60 km (37 miles) and 1,000 m (3,280 feet) of elevation gain—leaving time to enjoy local sights, start your morning without rush, and unwind after the ride. Extended rides are also available, where possible.
PAVED BACKROADS,
LEISURELY PACED
We know quality bikes matter—especially on a multi-day ride. We proudly offer our own fleet of premium bikes, featuring Trek carbon-fork cross bikes and touring e-bikes equipped with exceptionally quiet Shimano motors delivering 60Nm of torque and 100+ km (62+ mi) of range. Many guests enjoy e-bikes for their ease, while others prefer the versatility of hybrid bikes—whether riding together or choosing different styles. Thanks to our trusted partners, we also provide road bikes and child trailers at all destinations.
E-BIKES, HYBRID-BIKES, ROAD BIKES, CHILD TRAILER
If heavy rain is expected, we’ll discuss options with you in advance, and private transfers can be arranged at that time, helping to ease any concerns about riding in challenging conditions on a self-guided tour. We’ll also stay in touch via WhatsApp during your journey to offer assistance as needed. To support a seamless cycling experience, we arrange an online meeting in advance to review all logistics and ensure everything is in place before your departure.
FIRST-CLASS SUPPORT AND
WEATHER CARE
We’ve arranged meaningful local activities to deepen your connection to each region of Japan. Alongside these experiences, your personal audio tour guide is set up and accompanies you throughout your journey—offering location-based stories, Japanese cultural insights, helpful context whenever you wish. It’s a quiet presence that brings depth to your ride and the freedom of a self-guided cycling tour.

Cycling through Japan was unforgettable—quiet roads, hidden villages, and breathtaking scenery. The ryokans were stunning in quality and charm, each offering a unique cultural touch. Despite not speaking Japanese, everything was seamless and welcoming. A truly approachable way to experience authentic Japan beyond the usual tourist path.

Our trip to Japan was incredible, thanks to Taro and Satomi’s thoughtful and detailed planning. During the cherry blossom season, we e-biked and stayed in some beautiful Onsen, eating delicious Japanese cuisine. We extended our stay for 10 days with their self guided tour of the “highlights” of Japan! They provided us with day-to-day instructions via an easy-to-use App, which included everything and more…trains, taxis, boats, hotels, places to visit, and even where to get snacks!
Taro and Satomi’s expertise allowed us to pack in more experiences in a shorter time than if we tried to do it on our own.
We will definitely be returning to Japan for another adventure!!

We’ve cycled through many countries, but our journey with Taro and Satomi was truly special. Their thoughtful organization let us relax and deeply experience Japan’s culture in a way that felt authentic and unforgettable.
Their self-guidance system takes the guesswork out so every new road feels familiar.

I have been to Japan three times now, two time for backcountry skiing organized by them and this last time with my wife and a very good group of friends for a well researched and organized bike trip.
The ride was fantastic, very little traffic and interesting stops along the way. We mostly stayed in Ryokans.
I can’t say enough about how well everything was handled by Taro and Satomi, they made the trip of a lifetime for us all.

Japan is a must by bike. We travelled in the cherry blossom season on e-bikes with the help of GPS navigation assist on our phones. The instructions were detailed and easy to follow with both visual and auditory prompts for turns and other things. The food is delicious and definitely a highlight. The lodgings were amazing ...we will be back for more.

One of our best Self-Guided Trips that we have ever taken was organized by Taro and Satomi in 2023. We were hesitant to travel by ourselves in Japan, unsure of the language, transportation, where to go, and what to see.
Prior to our trip, Taro and Satomi carefully asked us what types of things we enjoy seeing, and how we like to travel. They then created a 10-day magnificent itinerary that met all of our requests AND MORE!
Our itinerary was carefully mapped out for us using excellent and user-friendly apps. We travelled by train, bus and taxi. Important information about where to purchase tickets, where to locate the train platform, where to sit on the train were all carefully explained, so we had no transportation worries or glitches. The accommodations were exquisite, many of them ryokans with unforgettable onsens.
Museums, places of interest, restaurants, shopping, local bike routes with rental bikes were all meticulously presented.
We were also in contact with them through texting, whenever we needed. We would receive pleasant reminders from them along the trip. Whenever we had questions, they immediately responded. It felt as if they were sitting quietly and politely on our shoulders as we travelled through their amazing country.
Traveling in this way, enabled us to see a less conventional, more authentic Japan. We have wonderful memories of the people, sights, and adventure of exploring the country on our own, thanks to Taro and Satomi.
We highly recommend it!

We had great bikes with comfortable saddles for our cycling of very diverse terrains along cherry-blossomed, quiet roads and spectacular coastal roads that were quiet and safe. We stayed in a variety of accommodations from quiet hotels with onsen where traditional kimonos were laid out on our beds for us to don after getting out of our cycling clothes. Many of us enjoyed the onsen after a full day of cycling. Taro & Satomi had organized our trip down to minute details, including a variety of traditional food in a range of restaurants.
We stopped at Shinto shrines, rocky beaches, farms, forests, rice paddies, small villages, and farmer’s markets. We saw the Southern Alps across the Sea of Japan. One of the many highlights was watching a group of elderly women playing a game similar to golf on a field - there was a sense of awe as they looked at us taking photos of them, and they, despite speaking no English, came over to us and posed for photos! There were so many highlights in this amazing trip with our wonderful hosts and tour guides, Taro, Satomi, and Toyo.

Everything was meticulously planned and executed. Particular care was taken to expose us to traditional Japanese culture and society. Routes were carefully chosen off major thoroughfares to maximize the serene beauty of the countryside and to ensure safe riding. Accommodation was in both traditional Japanese Onsen hostels and more contemporary Onsen hotels. Truly a delightful experience.
